PROJECT STRUCTURE

The Study of Tears was conducted in two different learning environments: Selly Oak Trust School and Project Volume's Summer School of Dance, at Dance Exchange, Birmingham.

 

School Structure (Selly Oak Trust School)

15 participants from the sixth form at Selly Oak trust School were divided into two groups, initially divided by ability, prior to specialisation where abilities mix. All parts below are divided into two groups and use the ideas explored in this site.

This involved a research scientist, a filmmaker, an artistic director, a learning-disabled mentor and a science teacher.

  1. Science module: 3 days
  2. Introduction to camera: 4 days
  3. Introduction to dance:3 days
  4. CHOICE GIVEN TO SPECIALISE IN VIDEO OR DANCE
  5. Professional spaces and facilities: 4 days
  6. Dance group and video group collaborating: 2 days
  7. Video group: 2 days in edit suite

 

Summer school/ dance intensive structure (Dance Exchange)

This involved a lead dance tutor (director) and a collaborating professional dancer, a learning-disabled mentor and a dance assistant

    1. Experienced and talented dancers: 7 days of nurturing their own choreography, inspired by and exploring ‘tears’.
    2. A public sharing of their choreography and ideas.
    3. Beginners dance : 3 days inspired by ‘tears’
